State Passenger Rail Group to Tour Union Pacific Museum
in Council Bluffs

         (Council Bluffs, Iowa)--The Iowa Association of Railroad 
 Passengers (IARP) will tour the Union Pacific Museum in Council Bluffs, 
 Iowa, as part of its summer meeting activities on Saturday, June 21, 
 2003.  The day will begin with the 10:00 a.m. visit to the Museum, 
 which is located in the former Carnegie Library, 200 Pearl Street, 
 Council Bluffs.
         Lunch will follow at the Veranda Buffet in the Ameristar 
 Casino, 2200 River Road, Council Bluffs, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
         The IARP summer meeting will also be held at the Ameristar 
 Casino, beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Topics at the meeting will include the 
 future of Amtrak's long distance trains, and the possibilities of 
 Iowa's participation in a Midwest Regional Rail system.  IARP President 
 Henry Wulff stated, "New information on these topics was presented by 
 Amtrak Vice President Gil Mallery at a recent meeting in Chicago.  I 
 look forward to sharing his comments with IARP members."
         This will be Wulff's last meeting as IARP President.  His 
 family will be relocating to Harlingen, Texas, where he hopes to 
 continue his advocacy for passenger rail.  Wulff retired in March, 
 2002,as State Administrator for U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley.  He also 
 served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1973 to 1977.
         Wulff says the Iowa Association of Railroad Passengers is a 
 state-wide non-profit group that supports rail service, both passenger 
 and freight. Wulff also says the group meets at various locations 
 throughout the state. Previous recent meeting sites have included Mount 
 Pleasant, Des Moines, Osceola, Dubuque and Burlington.
         The organization is affiliated with the National Association of 
 Railroad Passengers in Washington, D.C.
